Power links or dilution links: how to split the budget

Two families of links, two distinct roles. The method to allocate a link building budget that performs.

In short:

  1. Power links carry strategic pages, dilution links make the profile credible.
  2. A common ratio: two thirds of the budget on power, one third on dilution.
  3. The trade-off is reviewed every quarter based on profile maturity.

Not all links play the same role. Confusing power and dilution means paying dearly for links that work poorly.

Two families, two missions

  • Power: strong media, close topic, crafted anchor, strategic target
  • Dilution: varied sources, natural anchors, reasonable volume, profile plausibility

The trade-off rule

A young profile starts with dilution to build plausibility. An established profile shifts to power to push money pages.

Steer over time

Monthly monitoring crosses rankings, referring domains and anchor distribution. The trade-off is never frozen.
